Shop fair trade, artisan made products from around the world here.
I love crafts and DIY and I have so many failed attempts at Pinterest projects that I have a huge appreciation for craftsmanship and artisan made goods. If there’s a local craft fair, I’m there and love bringing home pieces that I’ve purchased from local artists because I support their commitment to their craft and want to continue to support their lifestyle and way of living. This is why I am so drawn to GlobeIn. GlobeIn’s online artisan marketplace features fair trade home decor, kitchenware and gifts from artisans in the developing countries.
I’ve had the pleasure of receiving the Bathe Set, one of the GlobeIn Artisan Boxes of curated artisan made goods. I could have shopped similar items at my local Target, but I’d like to share why I’ll skip my local retail store and go out of my way to support artisans abroad using my GlobeIn set as an example.
1. Creates better jobs and promotes innovation
With the support of purchases, artisans can expand and innovate on their craft. The silk face scrub is a new idea of artisan, Emre Ustun, who thought of weaving raw silk into an exfoliating facial mitt to purify the face and neck and promote skin health.
2. Helps build community:
Community can be built anywhere and around anything. Did you know that most independent businesses not only create better jobs, but they return a percentage of their revenue back into the community. This soap bar is made from an old recipe of handcrafted shea butter and west African palm kernel oil. All of the profits from this venture are directed to pre and post delivery care for women in Togo, Africa who have a 1 in 32 chance of mortality in pregnancy and childbirth.
3. Promotes green living
When works is done by hand, it takes less energy than mass production, which makes it more environmentally sustainable. In Turkey, almost every household contains a loom, the two towels in this set are hand loomed.
There are so many amazing products being manufactured right now by large retailers that have the look of being artisan, but I hope this article inspires you to get the real deal, in your community or from sites like GlobeIn World.
xo,
Thank you, GlobeIn World for sponsoring this post! All thoughts and opinions are my own.
