Josh and I love, love hiking. Any chance we get, we’re always seeking new places to explore, like the Painted Canyon.
Just outside of Palm Springs there’s a hiking trail in a slot canyon with ladders leading to the top of it. It’s like no other hike that I have ever done in California which makes it a must do if you’re planning a trip to Southern California or Palm Springs.
To get there, use your maps app to get to the trail head:
Painted Canyon Hike, Painted Canyon Rd, Mecca, CA 92254
Painted Canyon Road is 5 miles and when you turn onto it, there will be signs that indicate you’ll need four-wheel drive. We got there fine in my Prius, so don’t be alarmed if you don’t have an SUV.
When you get to the parking area, you can’t miss the trail. Along the hike you’ll be able to find the top by following the large arrows on the ground made of rocks. There are a series of ladders that lead to the top of the canyon with an amazing view! Here are a few links to trail options that you an take based on your hiking skill level.
