8 Simple To-do’s for an Eco Friendly Vacation

8 Simple To-do’s for an Eco Friendly Vacation

I’m starting to plan our vacations this summer, and they may or may not include Costa Rica and a spontaneous trip to Europe for Josh’s graduation! Being a conscious consumer, I’m beginning to discover that planning an eco friendly vacation  isn’t a new concept. It’s actually called sustainable tourism or ecotourism and has been an initiative of the UK’s for over a year now! The three pillars of sustainable tourism are employing environmentally friendly practices (reduce, reuse, recycle); protecting cultural and natural heritage (restoring historic buildings or saving endangered species); and providing tangible social and economic benefits for local communities (ranging from upholding the rights of indigenous peoples to supporting fair wages for employees).

Most of us do our due diligence to offset our travel footprints by turning off the lights when leaving our rooms, participating in hotel programs to reuse linens and towels and recycling on-site. One Year of Sustainable Fashion – Lessons Learned

One Year of Sustainable Fashion – Lessons Learned

This weekend marks one year of supporting and blogging about sustainable fashion. Last year, I committed to only purchasing fashion for good after fast fashion blogging for two years. I learned that my favorite brands, Forever 21 and Zara, crank out so many styles to keep up with fashion trends that they end up producing a ton of chemical and material waste along the way. This past year didn’t come without its challenges. To be a sustainable fashionista I had to discover eco-friendly brands, learn how to successfully internet shop, find new places to thrift and completely change my purchasing habits. Here are some realizations and lessons that I learned over the year:

The Eco Friendly Rain Boot

The Eco Friendly Rain Boot

It doesn’t rain often here in Southern California, but when it does, there’s nothing like a good rain boot to keep your feet warm and your toes dry. Especially when it’s raining outside and I’m headed to yoga–that happens to me way too often! When I was on the search, I looked for a boot that was lightweight, sleek in design and made of conflict free rubber (yes that’s a thing). That’s when I met Alice + Whittles, a truly eco friendly, sustainable rain boot.

The Flower Fields

Last weekend Josh and I attended his sister’s wedding in Dana Point. Over the past year, we’ve been on a mission to see and travel around Southern California, so we decided to visit the famous Carlsbad Flower Fields and even though I hate crowds, it was worth it!
