Have you found that the place and the vibes of the office you work in influences the way your dress? It’s the “we wear pink on Wednesdays mentality.” Most companies that you work for post-graduation will require a “business professional” or “business casual” dress code, so just going to Banana Republic seems easy and their clothes are pretty cute–for work clothes. Over time though, you start to develop 2 clothing racks: a Monday-Friday rack that isn’t really your style and a Saturday and Sunday rack that is 100% you.
In the past couple of months, I’ve transformed my work wardrobe to fit my boho-chic style and I’m actually so happy with the way I’ve been feeling at work and it has literally paid off (I got a promotion!). Here is how I have been incorporating my personal style into the workplace.
1. Categorize your current style
I categorized my style into an era: the seventies! The seventies are boho, relaxed and free, which very much align with boho chic style.
2. Explore silhouettes, patterns, and materials that are staples of the style you have chosen.
Seventies style incorporates different textures like crochet lace, velvet, leather and suede while having an earthy color pallet such as deep greens, mustards, and deep turquoise. It’s characterized by long hair, relaxed silhouettes, fringe, and patterns.
3. Start to look for more professional pieces that have the qualities of the style that is you.
For example: The shirt I am wearing features the feminist “pussy bow” of the seventies (what many woman executives began to wear in the late 1970’s and early 1980’s). The lace skirt I am featuring in this post is so boho, but it is midi length making it appropriate for the work place. The color of the skirt is very earthy, so it has 2 qualities of the style I’m trying to pull from. I finished up this outfit by keeping it neutral with nude heels.
